FAQ’s

Here is a quick guide to the most frequently asked questions.

Natural stone (granite and marble) can vary in colour and pattern.  Some are very consistent and homogenous.  For example, Nero Assoluto is an evenly toned black granite with no veining.  As such, this particular granite can possibly be chosen from a sample.  Other natural stone can be very colourful and have directional veining that varies from block to block.  Small samples, or photos for that matter, could never truly represent the actual colour and movement inherent in these stones. We highly recommend viewing the actual slabs.  Centerline Stone partners with only the most accredited natural stone suppliers in our industry.  We will provide you with a list of our preferred suppliers along with detailed instruction on how to select and tag slabs.  Bringing a sample of your cabinet door, flooring, backsplash and paint colours will facilitate the decision-making process.  You can view some colour options on our suppliers’ websites. Quartz is an engineered product that ensures more consistency in both colour and pattern.  These can be chosen from a sample.  We carry only the most reputable quartz product lines and have an extensive sample library in our showroom.  You can also browse our suppliers’ websites.

Natural stone and quartz are available in a variety of slab sizes.  When countertops, islands and breakfast bars exceed the size of any given slab, there will need to be a seam added.  Every effort is made to minimize the appearance of the seam by making it as tight and as clean as possible, but we do advise that you will always see and feel any seam.  Please refer to our Seams and Overhang guide.
Centerline Stone fabricates butt joints only.  Butt joints produce the tightest, cleanest and most precise seams.  Take a look at our guide to see our profiles and learn the differences between butt versus mitered edges.

Certain conditions must be in place for Centerline Stone to come out and measure your countertop.

  • Cabinets are fully installed and level, including island, appliance panels and all gables.
  • Templating with an existing countertop in place is possible, but may result in gaps for which Centerline is not responsible.
  • Surface to be measured must be free and clear of all objects..
  • Sink must be on site. Farmer and apron sinks must be in put in place for proper templating.
  • Stove and/or cooktop must be on site.
  • A 50% deposit has been received.

The homeowner or decision maker must be present during template to answer any questions.  A second trip charge will be applied if cabinets are not ready for templating.

Centerline Stone installs within 5-10 business days of template provided that the following conditions are met:

  • Colour/material has been selected and is available/in stock.
  • All existing countertops are removed (Centerline is not responsible for the removal or disposal of existing countertop).
  • All plumbing must be disconnected (Centerline is not responsible for any plumbing disconnections/connections).
  • Gas stoves must be disconnected (Centerline is not responsible for any gas disconnections/connections).
  • We recommend that all base cabinets and drawers are emptied out.
  • Sinks and appliances must be on site. Faucets, soap dispensers, water filters etc. must be on site.
  • Full height backsplash is measured once countertop is in place and will be installed 2-3 business days later.
  • Full invoice balance must be paid upon installation.

The homeowner or decision maker must be present during installation. Please arrange for a plumber to come in no sooner that 24 hours after installation.  This gives the adhesive holding the sink enough time to cure.  Failure to do so may result in water leakages and the “ungluing” of the sink.

Safety and insurance regulations require our installers to wear safety shoes and equipment.  The jobsite will be declared a workplace.  During this time, please refrain from entering the work area and keep children and pets out of the work zone. Be prepared for dust accumulation as cutting may be necessary.  Please note that cooktops and faucet holes are cut on site.

Granite and marble are porous in nature, but the degree of porosity varies from stone to stone.  Centerline Stone seals all natural stone countertops with a penetrating sealer upon installation which helps make the stone stain resistant and gives you enough time to clean up any spills. No countertop will be stain proof so we do advise that prolonged exposure to common household items such as oil or red wine can stain natural stone. Prolonged exposure of acidic foods or liquids such as vinegar and citrus fruits can also lead to etching of the stone (dulling of the polished surface).  We recommend re-sealing the countertop every year…this is a safe and simple process which can easily be done by the homeowner. Daily cleaning of your granite countertop is easy.  Please refer to our Care and Maintenance Guide for detailed instructions.  Centerline Stone also carries cleaners and sealers for all your stone care needs.
Quartz products are non-porous (do not absorb) and as such do not need to be sealed.  Quartz is a very durable and resilient countertop material but we do strongly advise that you follow the Care and Maintenance Guide to ensure the longevity of your countertop.  Detailed care instructions are also provided by the quartz manufacturers on their individual websites.
